Very interesting information while I study adult learning and instruction. I just got 4 hours of sleep and woke up because I have to study and turn in assignments that are late. I'm watching this video. Trying not to fall asleep because I am sleepy.

I have utilized adult learning theory in my teaching face to face as well as in online teaching. What I enjoyed about this video was a walk through the history of thought related to androgogy as well some critiques of the theory. Very specific attributes detailed a few concepts I have not previously associated with androgogy.

Great, but I wished the titles of each concept where written on a slide. As a primarily visual learner, I missed one of them while writing notes. (Or have a list at the end of the presentation).

Just to clarify: Knowles claimed (in his updated work) that the principles of andragogy are better applied to self-directed people rather than to adults per se. Children or adults who are relatively independent would be best served by an andragogical approach. Children or adults who are relatively dependent may be better served by a pedagogical approach.

This is very basic. Most every motivator and coach start with this level. This video is the foundation with which to build on. Each part is different for every person as far as the building blocks to succeed. My favorite steps for accomplishing this is from the book, "What color is my parachute. It's a bit more thorough than the kite diagram in this video. But I"m sure you got at least a B on this project video. ~Smile!

ANDRagogy has nothing to do with adult learning! ANDR (ἀνδρ) is the root of anér (ἀνήρ) which means "man" (male human being). So the word means "men's learning" as opposed to women's learning. Ancient Greek does not have a term for what we call an adult, but andragogy just makes no sense. Do not mess with what you do not know!!

The etymology of a word does not determine its current use. "Andragogy" is used to refer to adult learning.

As a therapist who utilizes Reality Therapy, these 6 assumptions of adult learning could "tie in" to Glasser's 5 basic needs theory...do adults choose to learn for power, independence, survival, belonging, or fun?

I enjoyed the video. It is really an extension of the theories that I was introduced to in my last class (Adult Theory). It is really an introduction and a framework for teaching and creates an atmosphere for good teaching practice. I recognized many of the six assumptions in myself and how they affect me as an adult learner.

Thank you for creating this introductory video... I agree with the narrator's comment that this appears to be a framework for teaching and that factors cane applied to adults and children. I appreciate this resources as a good starting point for learning more.

Really interesting. However, don't these principles now apply to young people too as the difficulties of engaging young people with current pedagogies becomes more apparent? Just sat in on a global online debate where a New York student called on educators to ditch teacher-focused curriculum and added: "I think we need to switch from pedagogy to to andragogy."

I am not sure how I stumbled upon you, however I find you very interesting. I am a 55 year young man who is retiring from present 37 year career and have started on my on-line studies. Unfortunately I never received any type of college degree and have registered with AIU on-line....anyway you have a great voice and appear to be very knowledgeable. Take the time and dress up you surroundings for your next cast. Hang a colorful sheet if you don't have a nice clean clear colorful room
